1. What is Varisoft EQ 65?

It is a commercially used emulsifier and surfactant used in cosmetics. It is one of the most used Eco-friendly emulsifiers because it is biodegradable. Its major use is in hair care products and also works as a conditioner. It gives a very good wet and dry combing to hair and improves the detangling of hairs. It is certified b COSMOS and Ecocert. It contains a maximum of 65% active ingredient.  It is an efficient conditioning agent with very clear rinsing. In hair products, it reduces the water consumption to rinse out, so it also saves the time of consumers to rinse quickly.

1. 1.1 Physical properties of Varisoft EQ 65:

It is an oil-soluble solvent and is available as a pellet form. Its pellets are white or slightly yellow-white and also give a powdery texture. Its melting point is 75-80 degrees Celsius, depending upon the concentration of additive. In water, the pellets are dispersed at 75 degrees Celsius.  It is acidic nature. Its pH varies from 3-6 (for 5% solution). It has a high flashpoint.

1. 1.2 Chemical Structure of Varisoft EQ 65:

Its active ingredient is Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride. This active ingredient makes the Varisoft slightly soluble in water. It is a very good preservative because it is an antimicrobial and anticorrosive agent. The chemical nature of this ingredient is ester quat and this ester quad on based on high purity stearic acid.  It contains a positive charge. Its cationic nature gives the powder and dry skin texture that is less greasy. In hair care products, it is used with a 2% concentration only. Another additive is added known as Cetearyl alcohol to improve the stability. Due to the presence of Cetearyl alcohol products need fewer other fatty acids. It is a biodegradable ingredient. In hair products, its 2% concentration is mixed with 2% Behentrimonium Chloride to increase hair volume.

1. 1.3 Origin of Varisoft EQ 65:

It is a vegetable in origin. It is derived from stearic acid and stearic acid is combined with Cetearyl alcohol. Its derived active ingredient is Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride. Its nature-derived quality makes it more demanded to be used in personal care products.

It is an internationally certified ingredient used as a conditioner and emulsifier in cosmetics, like hair products, lotion, body buffer, and daily use creams. The major use of Varisoft EQ 65 is in hair products. It is used in all types of hair products either rinse out or leave-in. It is one of the best conditioning ingredients in hair care products because as compared to other emulsifiers it gives more gloss to hairs and also makes hair styling easy.  It also weighs down the hairs by rinsing them properly. Varisoft EQ 65 also has a vital benefit in that it leaves hair easily after rinsing with water.  It improves wet combing as well as dry combing of hairs but its dry combing is superior to other conditioning reagents. Even it is also used in intense treatments like a hair mask. It is also used as a thickener and emulsifier in skincare products.

1. 1.5 Alternatives to Varisoft EQ 65:  

The alternative to Varisoft is BSTM-50 and behentrimonium chloride. BSTM-50 contains behentrimonium methosulphate as an active ingredient. The active ingredient is 50% of BSTM-50. Its emulsifying and conditioning strength is more than airsoft but its melting temperature is less. It can melt at 60 degrees Celsius. It is expensive and its extensive use makes the fishy smell on the skin. Behentrimonium chloride is also a commercially added emulsifier and it is superior to others because it does not need additives. It is also a cationic oil-soluble ingredient. Its melting temperature is higher than another such ingredient that can make it difficult to work. Like BSTM-50 it gives a very strong fish odor.

1. 1.6 Safety and storage: 

Its packing must be labeled as hazardous and there should be protective measures in handling and packaging. It is only for external use. It can never be used in food products. But the presence of Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride in Varisoft, its shelf life is good. It also contains Cetearyl alcohol that improves its stability.  It is also a biodegradable agent and labeled as green because it is eco-friendly. It is well stable at acidic pH also.
